Diagnostic and Imaging Services
Sometimes the issues plaguing our pets aren’t obvious in a physical examination. When these cases arise, the team at Hanover Veterinary Hospital can utilize state-of-the-art technology in our in-house laboratory to provide a more detailed diagnosis.
Imaging
Our Cedar Lake hospital offers X-ray and ultrasound technology. These devices allow our doctors to get a better look at what’s going inside your pet’s body.
Digital X-Ray
Digital X-Rays are non-invasive and use significantly less radiation than traditional film X-rays. Not only does this make this procedure safer than ever, it also provides clearer images which are viewable within minutes. While most people are familiar with skeletal X-rays, to diagnose broken bones or damaged joints, our digital radiography technology can be used to diagnose a number of other disorders including:
- Liver, kidney, and heart disease
- Bladder and kidney stones
- Tumors
- Bowel and urinary tract obstructions
Ultrasound
As with digital X-ray, pet ultrasound is completely non-invasive and painless. Ultrasound uses soundwave echoes to create a real-time, moving image of your pet’s internal organs. With ultrasound, we can detect and analyze multiple different conditions, including:
- Tumors
- Pregnancies
- Abdominal cysts
- Bladder stones
- Abnormalities in internal organ shape and function, including kidneys, heart, and liver.
While we do accept walk-in and same day appointments for most wellness and emergency services, appointments must be made in advance to meet with our ultrasound technician.
In-House Diagnostic Lab
When your pet is sick, we know you want to know what’s wrong as soon as possible. While we do partner with an outside diagnostics laboratory for complex cases, those results take about 24 hours to process. Our in-house diagnostics lab allows us to run some of the most common blood and parasite testing needed and receive results for you within one hour.
Tests we can quickly process include:
- Blood work including complete blood cell (CBC) count and comprehensive chemistries
- Heartworm, FeLV/FIV
- Fecal, parvo and giardia
- Urinalysis
- Thyroid testing
The ability to run these tests in our laboratory is a great advantage to our team in emergencies and when quick results are needed.
